Arte Povera

Thursday, March 29, 2007 -- The Dante Alighieri Society and the Romance Languages Department at Wayne State Unversity were pleased to host Rebecca Hart, associate curator of contemporary art at the Detroit Institute of Arts, who delivered a lecture on Arte Povera.

Paolini - L'altra figura
The term "Arte Povera" was introduced by the Italian art critic, Germano Celant, in 1967.  His pioneering texts, and a series of key exhibitions, provided a collective identity for a number of young Italian artists based in Turin, Milan, Genoa, and Rome. These artists were working in radically new ways, breaking with the past and entering a challenging dialogue with trends in Europe and America. This presentation is an introduction to this ground breaking movement.
